Instructional Design Skype Talk

Date: Thursday, March 9, 2017
Time: 4pm – 5pm MT

Place: Online via Skype, or In Person in Henderson Hall Rm 1-117b

 CAPAL presented a Skype Discussion with Francesca Marineo, an instructional design librarian at Nevada State College. She received her MLIS from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she discovered her profound passion for information literacy instruction. Pursuing a Master in Educational Psychology, she focuses on improving teaching and learning in higher education through innovative pedagogy and data-driven design.

Cover Letter Workshop with Kathleen Delong

On Monday, January 30, 2017, the Chapter presented a Workshop on how to write a Cover Letter with Kathleen Delong, Senior Human Resource Officer at Learning Services/Library Human Resources at UAlberta.

The event took place from 4-5pm Mountain time in room 1-17 Henderson Hall.

Meet and Greet with Professional Librarians and UAlberta Student Chapter
On Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at 4:00 pm there was a Meet and Greet with Academic Librarians from across Ualberta presenting about what it means to work as an Academic Librarian.  On campus CAPAL members were also be there to answer any questions about the organization.

On March 31, 2016 at 6pm MST the University of Alberta CAPAL Student Chapter held a CV workshop, with the help of Kathleen DeLong, a Human Resources officer with University of Alberta Libraries.

Skype Discussion with Tasha Maddison

On November 18, 2015 the University of Alberta CAPAL Student Chapter hosted a Skype discussion with Tasha Maddison, Copyright Consultant Librarian at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Tasha discussed her educational and professional background leading up to her current position, and provided students with some helpful advice and guidance as we prepare to enter the profession. Skype Discussion with Mark Weiler

On October 22, 2015 the University of Alberta CAPAL Student Chapter hosted a Skype discussion with Mark Weiler, Web and User Experience Librarian at Wilfrid Laurier University. This role is relatively new to the profession, which sparked conversation and questions among attendees. Mark also previously held the position of Chair of the National CAPAL Student Committee; he discussed the benefits of becoming involved as a student, and ways in which his involvement benefited him. It was great chatting with Mark!

On March 24, 2015 the University of Alberta CAPAL Student Chapter hosted a virtual discussion with Sean Luyk, academic librarian and CAPAL Ambassador at the University of Alberta. Sean discussed with us his transition experience from student to professional, his role at U of A, and research interests. Students in attendance found the discussion to be engaging, helpful, and informative!
